In the Summer, In the City...

Alrigthy folks, I've got a lot of stories, but not a lot of time, so we'll see how this works. So I'm going the "book thing" again and this time the winds have blown me to Boston, MA area. Specifically a town called Melrose. My address is

Lindsay Achgill

152 Clifton St.
Malden, MA 02148

and my soon-to-be-number is (630 207-3108 (thanks Peak!!!!)

Hmmm....where to begin...so after sales schoolwe arrived in Boston...I rode up with a guy named Chris who was an MK in the Phillipines, and we played a game where we got points every time we got someone to wave at us...this one lady flipped us off, which we thought was absolutely hilarious...because it was hilarious. Anyway, so we get here, and my new roommate and I, Sarah Santiago (de Puerto Rico) started looking for a place to live. We ended up sleeping at a church that one of the guys with us found through some contacts he has up here. Then Sarah found a place with one of the people at a church, and we moved in (along with our other roommate Liz Digitale, from California, but she goes to Wheaton). Then Tuesday they told us we had to leave that night because they needed the space for some relatives coming in from Italy...so after working a 13 and a half hour day, we had to pack up all of our stuff and head out at 10pm. We found a motel to stay in for the night. The next night we moved in with some people about an hour away because her car had blown up and they needed someone who could drive them to their territory. The funny thing is that Eunice Sung (the girl who's car had blown up) had just bought the car after she had gotten into an accident on the way up to Massachusetts. Poor
Eunice, but she's a trooper. Smooth and steady, like a Cadillac...sorry, that was some book talk.

Anyhoo, so then by the end of the week things worked out, and Sarah had found a place for us to stay with a Haitian family...oh yeah, they definitely speak French!!!!! Heck, yeah woohoo!!!! Andy (our landlord) said that depending on how fluent I really am, he may be able to use me for some spots on his radio broadcast commercials. Uh huh, that's right. Commercials. Me. Me in radio commercials. Mmhmm, you know you're jealous. Anyhoo, so the family we're staying with is absolutely amazing, and I like them a lot. There's Andy, Nande, and their two sons Randy and Reggie. And Nande is pregnant!!! We'll be here when the baby's born!!! How exciting is that??!!!! I forget what they said they were going to name him though...but it starts with an "R."

Anyway, so then I've been pretty much just selling books and working my butt off. Don't be alarmed in next time you see me there's a concave there, it just means that I've been working hard...huh-huh. Get it? Yeah, I know. Moving on. My roommates are super-cool, and I've met a lot of cool Moms. Not a ton of stories yet, but there was a person from Niger that was slightly obesessed with me, and I thought that that was over, but the other day we drove near his house on our route back home, and he had apparentely seen us go by, so he jumped in his car and followed us back...he was flashing his ligths at us to get our attention, but we couldn't figure out what was going on, and then we pulled over, and he came out and said hi to us, and was wondering why we hadn't been by recently...Yeah, we were all slightly weirded out, but no big deal...He probably was confused, because that used to be where I waited for my roommate to pick me up, but then he said that he loved me, and so things got a little weird...So I found another bike, because I had been borrowing theirs, and just stopped coming there at all. So I guess we never really did say good-bye to them (Amadou, and his cousin Housseine and his wife Marcy). I can understand the confusion.

Then last night when Liz picked me up, she said that we had to go to the hospital because Sarah had gotten into an accident on her bike...so we went to the hospital, and didn't leave until about 1:30am...she just needed some stitches right above her eyebrow...she got 11 stitches. But she was okay, and being super-cool about it. Awesome attitude! Like a Cadillac...more book jargon.

Oh, I guess there was this one other funny story...I had a first year dealer following me one day so she could hopefully learn some stuff about how to do the job, and I had told her that morning that she had better be ready to have some fun that day...so indeed we did. We made animal noises as we were riding our bikes down the rode, but the best part was when we had stopped to ask these people if we could use a wrench because her bike seat kept tilting backwards and we needed to tighten it, and I pretended like I didn't know English, and I went up and started speaking to them in French...I was like these somewhat older people, and they look at me and start saying "Do you speak English?" really slowly and kind of louder, and I just kind of looked at them and go, "No English" in a perfectly American accent, and they totally don't even realize, and so I starte speaking in French again, and they turn to Sarah and ask her if she spoke any Enlish, and she goes, "A little" in a Spanish accent. Then I started talking again, and they told be to be quiet and let the one who knows English to speak. And I totally stopped talking, and they totally didn't even realize that I would have had to have understood what they had said. I had to bite my lip at one point because I almost started laughing, but they were talking to Sarah, so they didn't notice. They were talking really loudly and slowly and pointing down the street trying to tell us how to get to a gas station...and then Sarah and I left and went totally the opposite direction that they had said. As soon as we hit the corner, we were cracking up...ahh, good stuff. It was indeed a fun day. Good times, good times. I can't imagine what those people must have said after we left. Anyhoo, I've got to get some book stuff done. Later gators.
